A cappella choir workshop

Stuart Davis has been leading school and community choirs and held choral workshops for over 25 years. This course is based on a short workshop with a large group of students as part of The Arts Unit's Boys Vocal Program. Stuart aims to build a song from scratch in a short time to create a positive and engaging experience for the boys, being part of a harmonic, rhythmic musical group.

Conductor, singer, Artistic Director, mentor and advocate for choral singing, Brett Weymark is a recognisable force on the Australian music scene. One of Australia’s premiere choral conductors, Brett Weymark is currently working with the Sydney Philharmonic Choirs. This course provides a specific framework for teachers working with choral groups.

In this course, Rachel Kelly demonstrates ways to prepare the body for effective singing through physical exercises that foster good breathing habits; exercises and techniques to gently warm up and move the voice through the entire vocal range; creating a unified, pure vowel sound and exercises on consonants to improve clarity and diction; and methods of extending vocal range and exercises to develop a harmonious, choral blend.

This course presents practical and accessible exercises to get the best out of your secondary choir, whether you're a seasoned conductor or new to teaching choirs. Elizabeth Scott explores breathing and physical exercises that prepare the body and brain for effective and healthy choral singing; activities to effectively warm up the voice, lips tongue and diaphragm; activities to create beautiful, well blended sounds using vowels; methods of teaching essential choral skills such as listening to each other, following the conductor and inner hearing.
