What is The Arts Unit Digital Engagement?

The Arts Unit (TAU) Digital Engagement provides online resources, access and information to virtual excursions and live streams of creative and performing arts, speaking competitions, Premier's challenges and professional development (PD), engaging students and teachers throughout NSW.

Content is delivered by experts and accompanied by resources drawn within The Arts Unit and industry partners. In addition to live engagement, our extensive digital library offers various tools to assist schools and teachers in their classrooms.

Teacher professional learning

TAU Digital Engagement offers an extensive digital library of teacher identified professional development, visit The Arts Unit Learning Hub.

Virtual excursions

Virtual excursions are streamed via  Distance and Rural Technologies (DART).

The Arts Unit excursions include:

  • HSC Dance Callback series
  • HOME schools virtual art-making with  Aboriginal artist Jonathan Jones and virtual excursions to the Art Gallery of NSW.
  • Festival of Choral Music repertoire
  • State drama and dance festivals

How did we get here?

How do we create online learning?

Multitouch eLearning

Our Multitouch eLearning Framework is research based and employs a variety of delivery systems, devices, formats and styles within the one learning experience, reinvigorating online learning.

Project

Project scoped, resources allocated, licensing and permissions obtained.

Key learning objectives are identified. What will the participant learn? Why is this learning important?

Filming

Filming is generally unobtrusive with 1 to 2 cameras, small lapel mics or separate audio recording. A variety of filming styles are used including:

  • observational
  • documentary
  • short ‘to camera’ sections by the tutor
  • scripted or dedicated film shoots.

Footage is also repurposed from events, webinars, performances, streams and virtual excursions.

Structure

The footage is then sent to a specialist content writer who working as a subject matter expert, identifies key learning areas and sections suitable to develop assessment material from, and provides edit points.

Editing

The footage is edited. Closed captions and interactive transcripts are ordered for accessibility compliance.

Content Writing

Content writing involves developing online assessment material that is aligned to the Australian Teaching Standards. Resources are also created if required. Guides, examples and templates are supplied.

Instructional Design

After content writing is complete, the project progresses to instructional design (using an eLearning authoring tool) to construct the course.

Accessibility Remediation

Accessibility specialist reviews and remediates all content.

Review

Courses published to a review platform for feedback and changes.

MyPL PUBLISH

MyPl application written and, once approved, submitted to the platform.

Promote

Short promo videos are created and distributed through TAU social media channels.

Evaluate

Data is gathered to determine the level and quality of engagement, interaction and learning outcomes in a continuous refinement of our process and our learning resources.

Human-centred design is a creative approach to problem solving. It places people at the heart of the problems we solve. By understanding who we are trying to reach we can design better solutions.​

Animated eClips​

Engaging video clips to convey ideas and information quickly and effectively. Animations have been created to provide hints and tips for students and teachers to prepare for public speaking competitions.

Interactive info packs​

Information presented in a non-linear, dynamic and engaging way, combining video, audio and downloadables in an innovative package accessible online.
